During April 24-27, 2017, Ivan Kosnica, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, delivered a lecture in the “Public Lectures” series of the Department of Hungarian Legal history.

Prof. Kosnica’s lecture was titled “Historical Foundations of the Compromises”. Prof. Kosnica analysed the context and content of Austro-Hungarian Compromise as a basic constitutional document that regulated relations in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy from 1867 until its dissolution in 1918. The aim of the lecture was to provide students with broader context in which Croatian-Hungarian Compromise of 1868 was reached. In the first part of the lecture, the process of negotiations and process of enactment of the Croatian-Hungarian Compromise was introduced. After that, the presentation summarized the constitutional position of Croatia-Slavonia according to the Croatian-Hungarian Compromise. The lecture put a special focus on the development of Croatian-Slavonian autonomous legal system within the lands of the Hungarian Crown.

Dr. Ivan Kosnica works at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb, currently as Associate Professor at the Chair for the History of Croatian Law and State. In 2006 he finished MA study in Law at the Faculty of Zagreb. In 2007, he enrolled the Postgraduate study of Public Law and Public Administration. In 2012 he successfully finished his doctoral thesis about citizenship in Croatia-Slavonia from 1848 to 1918. His basic research interest is concentrated on the history of citizenship and the history of public law institutions. He participated at a number of conferences and published a larger number of scientific articles.
