This summer, three of our students, Laura Anna Deme, Marufjon Yakubjonov and Nóra Hanna Csőke, participated in the summer course “Global Administrative Law in Practice” organized by the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), thanks to the support of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, International and Regional Studies Institute.
Each year, the Summer School focuses on different topical issues, and this year’s program focused on the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war on the European Union, analyzing its effects both regionally and globally. Over five intensive days, the course addressed key issues such as the war’s impact on the EU’s internal market, the future of EU enlargement, the energy crisis, international sanctions, and the EU’s humanitarian role. Each morning featured lectures by distinguished speakers from across Europe, while the afternoons were devoted to practical exercises, including group discussions and debates.
An outstanding element of the course was a field trip to the Energy Regulatory Authority, where our students gained insight into Greece’s energy crisis management. They also visited the Greek Parliament, exploring its history and observing a parliamentary session. The group later toured the Acropolis Museum, adding a cultural dimension to their stay in Athens.
The program took place in two iconic locations—Athens and Sounion—providing students with the opportunity to learn in historic surroundings. Networking with fellow participants from across Europe allowed for a rich exchange of perspectives and furthered professional connections.
The course concluded with discussions on international law, state responsibility, and the role of the EU as a humanitarian actor, culminating in a presentation on FRONTEX crisis response. Outside of the academic activities, students visited landmarks such as the Acropolis and the Temple of Poseidon, and enjoyed traditional Greek cuisine.
Overall, the program provided an enriching blend of academic learning, cultural immersion, and professional networking that left a lasting impression on all participants.
