At our Faculty, we are dedicated to fostering a global perspective among our students. Through our
English language programs such as the International and European Trade and Investment Law LLM Program
and the
English Master in International Relations, we equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to engage in high-level international conferences like the Model WTO. Since its inception in 1997, the Model WTO has been a platform for over 60 students annually to gather in Switzerland and shape the future of international trade policy within the context of the World Trade Organization.
This year's conference, themed "WTO and Subsidies" drew students from diverse backgrounds to discuss critical issues in international trade policy. Anih's participation in Committee 5 exemplifies the real-world application of the theoretical knowledge gained through our programs. Her ability to network with individuals from over 30 countries and negotiate towards consensus underscores the invaluable experiences our programs offer.
Ms. Anih concluded her feelings with her following words:
“Being a delegate of Bangladesh in Committee 5 on Environmentally Harmful Subsidies at the 27th Model WTO is one for the books. The opportunity to apply my theoretical knowledge as a master’s student of International and European Trade and Investment law while getting to network with like-minded individuals from over 30 different countries is a gift to my learning trajectory. Getting to learn the intricacies of negotiating and working to reach a consensus is a skill I will apply in every aspect of my career. I am thankful for the insightful lectures and discussions presented by representatives from the World Trade Organization, The World Economic Forum, UNCTAD, The World Bank, and the Mission of Bangladesh (Geneva).
I am especially thankful to Dr. Gizem Gültekin-Várkonyi, whose efficiently conducted seminar classes titled International Negotiation and Intercultural Communication spurred my aspiration to attend simulations like these on an international scale. Through her detailed teaching and guidance, I was able to foresee my expectations at the conference and prepare confidently for the negotiation rounds.
Many thanks to the University of St. Gallen and the organizing committee for hosting such an invaluable conference.”
We're immensely proud of Anih's accomplishments. At our Faculty, we strive to empower students like Anih to excel on the global stage and make meaningful contributions to the field of international trade and diplomacy.
