A High Ranking delegation has visited our Faculty from the Northwest University of Political Science and Law of the People’s Republic of China

On the 9th of June 2018 a high ranking delegation of the Northwest University of Political Science and Law, from Xi’an, China, has visited the University of Szeged Faculty of Law and Political Sciences to discuss possibilities of further cooperation between our universities with the Leadership of our Faculty. The delegation was led by Vice President Professor Qi Si, members were Professor Li Li, director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, Professor Pan Junwu, Vice Dean of the School of International Law and Associate Professor Feng Dongmei of the School of Media and Journalism.

Our University was represented by Prof. Dr. Katalin Nagy, Vice Rector for International Affairs and by Prof. Dr. Krisztina Karsai Vice Rector for Education, while the Faculty was represented by Prof. Dr. Elemér Balogh, Dean, Dr. Norbert Varga, Vice Dean for Scientific Affairs and Director of the Gateway Program and Dr. László Gulyás Gateway Program Rapporteur. At the discussion Richárd Mohr, Hungarian Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged was also present allowing the meeting to become successful through his Chinese language interpretation.

The meeting started with Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Katalin Nagy briefly introducing the international portfolio of the University of Szeged, followed by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Krisztina Karsai’s speech about the University’s plans for improving education and development. Dean Prof. Dr. Elemér Balogh summarized our Faculty’s ongoing cooperations with our Chinese partner universities, the importance and advancement of European legal education, emphasizing the usefulness of cooperations between small and large states regarding education, science and academic life.

Vice President Qi Si said that based on previous feedbacks, students from Xi’an have returned home satisfied from Szeged, but he has also acknowledged the fact that only a few students have participated in the Gateway Program so far from their University. They wish to change this, and in order to do so they are planning to send a whole group of students simultaneously to study in the Gateway Program, because they think that the level of education here is very high and that the knowledge that students can obtain here is competitive all over the world. They also said that in accordance with the Belt and Road Initiative, they wish to make their cooperation with our Faculty their flagship project.
