„Global challenges, European unification and national diversity in private international law?” Conference

The Private International Law Department (Faculty of Law, University of Szeged) and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences-Szeged Federal Markets “Momentum” Research Group (Prof. Csongor István Nagy), with the support of the Pólay Elemér Foundation and the Ministry of Justice of Hungary has organised a one day international conference with the title „Global challenges, European unification and national diversity in private international law?” at the University of Szeged on November 17, 2017. The conference addressed the distinctive features of the emerging EU private international law, including their causes and consequences and, through the lenses of various national jurisdictions and codifications, it presented the evolving interaction between EU conflict of laws and national systems featured by various forms of crossfertilization. The keynote speech was given was given by Prof. János Martonyi, Chair of the UNCITRAL, former minister of foreign affairs of Hungary and professor emeritus of the University of Szeged, and Prof. Vesna Lazic, senior researcher at the Asser Institute, and professor of law at the University of Utrecht. Beside the beforementioned scholars, experts from other international institutions, like the University of Exeter, the Central European University, the Complutense University Madrid, the University of Northumbria, the University of Bucharest, the Matej Bel University, the University of Silesia, the University of Novi Sad, the University of Nis, the University of Zagreb, and the Mykolas Romeris University, gave lectures on the issue of private international law.
