Award of the Faculty of Law to professor Randolp L. Braham

Laurea Honoris Causa-decoration was awarded to Randolp L. Braham, professor of City University of New York the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Szeged

Professor Randolph L. Braham (b. 1922), lectured on the 3rd of October in the Goldmark Hall (Wesselényi street, Budapest). The title of his intervention was: Anatomical analysis of the Hungarian Holocaust. Professor Braham was welcomed by András Heisler, president of the Association of the Hungarian Jewish Congregations (Mazsihisz), and professors of the CEU, Maria M. Kovács and András Kovács.

 

After the intervention of professor Braham, in the name of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Szeged, vice-dean Zsolt Szomora gave Laurea Honoris Causa-prize to the professor. Professor Braham, as a political scientist raised generations and as a historian supported many scholars, among them professors and students of our university. In the name of the Mazsihisz, András Heisler also gave a medallion to professor Braham, thanking for his many decades of work.

Randolph L. Braham has been teaching at the City University of New York comparative political science, for almost four decades. One part of his numerous publications connected to this field. He is an internationally recognized historian of the Holocaust. Árpád Göncz, president of the Hungarian republic, awarded him with the officer cross of Hungarian Republic in 1995.

Professor Braham got in touch with the professor of our University and the Department of Political Science in the 1990s. They worked together in several publications, conferences during the past decades. In 2014, at the international conference organized by the Department of Political Science, he gave the keynote speech, in the auditorium of the main building of the University of Szeged. Due to his expert support, international reputation, his foundation (J. and O. Winter Fund) not only the professors of our University, but students of the Faculty of Law can continue scientific research, got possibilities of publishing studies and books. In the Studies on the Holocaust, a scientific series that was published for the eighth time this year, our professors and students were able to publish their papers. The professional commitment of our students was largely contributed by the support of Braham. Several among them became PhD-students. Professor Randolph L. Braham with all this work unselfishly promoted the international fame of our Faculty.
