International conference organized by the Private International Law Department and HAS-Szeged Federal Markets “Momentum” Research Group
The Department of Private International Law and the HAS-Szeged Federal Markets “Momentum” Research Group (Prof. Csongor István Nagy) have organized a one-day international conference entitled „Free trade, public interest and reality: new generation free trade agreements and national regulatory sovereignty”. The conference took place on May 4, 2017 in the Aula Magna of the Academic Committee of Szeged of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. János Martonyi, former minister of foreign affairs of Hungary and professor emeritus of the University of Szeged. The conference focused on new generation free trade agreements, which have opened a new age in international economic relations and necessitate the re-thinking of our fundamental notions on global governance, state sovereignty and regulatory autonomy.
The conference featured several world-renowned scholars: Dr. Marija Bartl, assistant professor of law, at the University of Amsterdam, Prof. Hannah Buxbaum, professor of law at Indiana University Bloomington, Prof. Valentina Delich, director of the Program on Rights and Public Goods and Academic Director of the Master’s Degree in Intellectual Property at FLACSO-Argentina, Prof. Frank Emmert, professor of law at Indiana University Indianapolis, Prof. David Gantz, professor of law at the University of Arizona, Dr. Yao-Ming Hsu, associate professor at National Cheng-Chi University, Taipei, Dr. Jessica Lawrence, assistant professor at the Central European University, Prof. Gonzalo Villalta Puig, Head of the School of Law and Politics and Chair in the Law of Economic Integration at the University of Hull, Prof. Lee Strang, professor of law at the University of Toledo and Dr. Márton Varjú, research chair at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
